Why I’m Running for Belmont City Council:
My name is Katherine O’Kane, and I’m running for Belmont City Council because I believe our city deserves leadership that reflects everyone who calls Belmont home — not just one demographic or political perspective. I live in Belmont and work at the Gaston County Courthouse, serving the people of this county with integrity, fairness, and commitment.
Our city is growing and changing — and it’s time for our leadership to do the same. We need fresh perspectives, strong community roots, and someone who understands what it means to live, work, and raise a family right here in Belmont. I’m not a career politician or an outsider — I’m a neighbor, a public servant, and someone who deeply cares about preserving Belmont’s charm while moving it forward in thoughtful, inclusive, and responsible ways.
This race isn’t about partisanship — it’s about priorities. It’s about protecting what makes Belmont special while improving everyday life for all of us. From strengthening public safety, to supporting smart growth, to making local government more transparent and responsive. I’m ready to roll up my sleeves and do the work.
Belmont deserves a voice at the table that’s grounded in real experience and real connection to this community. I’m running because I want Belmont to be a place where everyone feels heard, valued, and represented.
